The flowers do not hurry—and your Father sees you.

The lilies of the field

Read-aloud: The Lilies of the Field

One bright morning, Jesus sat on a hillside with His friends. Birds were singing. Wildflowers swayed in the breeze.

Some people felt worried. “What will we eat tomorrow? What will we wear? What if we do not have enough?”

Jesus looked at them with kind eyes and said:

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Matthew 6:25–26 (KJV)

Then He pointed to the lilies growing all around. White and yellow petals shone in the sun.

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Matthew 6:28–29 (KJV)
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? … Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:30, 34 (KJV)

So when you feel worried or scared about tomorrow, remember the lilies. They do not work hard to be beautiful. Your Father in heaven takes care of them—and He loves you even more. You can rest in His hands today.

Memory verse (for coloring)

Matthew 6:28–29 (KJV): Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Gentle question

What is one “morrow” worry we could leave outside the door tonight—and trust God with instead?

Short prayer together

Father, You feed the birds and dress the lilies. Help us rest in You today. Amen.
