Gentle Journey—for days when Mommy or Daddy needs rest.

When Mommy/Daddy is Tired

A short read-aloud for little hearts when grown-ups need a quiet moment on the couch.

Read-aloud

Sometimes Mommy or Daddy looks tired. Their eyes might be heavy, their voice quiet, or they need to rest on the couch. It’s okay. Everyone gets tired sometimes—even grown-ups.

Jesus understands tired. He walked many miles with His friends, teaching and helping people all day. At times He got in a boat just to rest a little. One day He was so tired that He fell asleep in the boat while a storm came. But He still had peace.

And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? Mark 4:38 (KJV)

God gives us rest. When Mommy or Daddy is tired, you can help in small ways: be gentle with your voice, pick up your toys without being asked, or sit quietly with a book for a few minutes. Those little things are love.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

One small gentle step together

When you see Mommy or Daddy is tired:

  1. Speak softly.
  2. Do one helpful thing without being told.
  3. Pray a short prayer for them (even just “Jesus, help Mommy rest”).

A simple prayer

Dear Jesus, thank You for Mommy and Daddy. When they feel tired, please give them Your rest and strength. Help me be gentle and helpful today. Amen.
