1. Parenting weariness

The battle

Many nights I felt I was failing my children while exhausted and short-tempered.

The verse

Isaiah 40:11 — He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

What He showed me

He carries both them and me. My job is to stay close to the Shepherd.

One small way

Speak Isaiah 40:11 out loud once a day while looking at my children.

2. Authority and conscience

The battle

Laws and pressures sometimes pulled against clear conviction.

The verse

Matthew 22:21 — Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.

What He showed me

I can give honor without handing over conscience or worship.

One small way

Pray first; obey God first; give Caesar only what truly belongs to him.

3. Long storm

The battle

The waves had been loud for many months and the Lord still seemed asleep in the boat.

The verse

Mark 4:39 — Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

What He showed me

He is never surprised by the storm, and never absent from the boat.

One small way

Name the storm out loud; speak “Peace, be still” even when I feel nothing.

4. Heavy laden weariness

The battle

Jesus invites me exactly as I am—empty.
