God Provides in the Worry

The Scripture (Matthew 6:25-34)

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

The story / setting

Jesus spoke these words on a hillside to ordinary people who carried real burdens—food for their families, clothes for their children, fear of tomorrow. He did not scold them. He pointed to the birds and the wild lilies.

The lesson learned

Our heavenly Father knows every need. He faithfully cares for the birds that do not sow and the flowers that do not toil. We are of far more value to Him than they.

How it applies today

When bills pile up, a child is sick, the job feels unsteady, or anxiety whispers about next month—these same words still speak. Worry does not add a single hour to our life, but turning to the Father does bring peace.

How to prepare the heart

• Each morning, name one worry out loud or in writing, then speak Matthew 6:34 back to the Lord.
• Keep a small “Provision List”—note one way God provided today (even something tiny).
• When worry returns, whisper: “Father, You see this. I am choosing to trust You for today.”

Quiet reflection (optional)

• What worry am I carrying that belongs to tomorrow?
• When has God provided in the past, even in hard seasons?

For little ones

Use the Lilies read-aloud at the table. Simple activity: draw or color something God made that does not worry—a bird, a flower, a tree. Talk about how God takes care of them and of us.
