Build Your House on the Rock — When Storms Hit Marriage, Grief, or Money

Matthew 7:24-25 — Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

Jesus closes the Sermon with a picture of obedience that holds when rain, floods, and wind beat on real life—not hearing alone, but doing His words.

The Narrow Gate — When the Wide Way Feels Easier

Matthew 7:13-14 — Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Jesus does not hide the cost of following Him—the path to life is narrow, and exhaustion or culture will often pull toward the wide gate.

Anger and Reconciliation — When Words Already Fired

Matthew 5:23-24 — Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Jesus treats unreconciled anger as urgent—worship waits while you pursue repair, because broken fellowship grieves the Father.

Be Anxious for Nothing — When Peace Feels Far and the Mind Will Not Rest

Philippians 4:6-7 — Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Paul’s gentle command: bring everything to God with thanksgiving—and let His peace guard your heart when life makes no sense.

Ask, Seek, Knock — When Prayer Feels Dry and Answers Feel Far Away

Matthew 7:7-8 — Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Jesus invites weary hearts to keep coming—not because prayer is a formula, but because the Father who hears is good.

Salt and Light — When You Feel Too Small to Matter for Christ

Jesus names His people salt and light—faithful presence in ordinary places, without performance or hiding.

Forgive Seventy Times Seven — When the Hurt Keeps Coming Back

Matthew 18:21-22 — Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Jesus answers Peter with mercy that does not keep score—forgiveness as a way of life, not a one-time performance when you feel noble.

When Anger Burns

James 1:19-20 — Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Contentment in Little

Philippians 4:11-13 — Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

God gave the commandments in love—to protect, bless, and point us toward Him and one another.
