New Testament · Mark 10:14
Let the Little Children Come
“Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not.”
Jesus welcomes the small—and rebukes those who push them away.
The Scripture
Gospel passage: turn on Red letters to see the Lord Jesus’s words in red on your device.
And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Mark 10:13-14 (KJV)
The story / setting
Parents brought children to Jesus. Disciples thought He was too busy. Jesus was displeased with them—and opened His arms. The kingdom belongs to hearts like theirs: trusting, small, willing to come.
The lesson learned
Jesus does not treat children as interruptions. He welcomes them—and calls grown-ups to receive the kingdom with similar trust.
How it applies today
Busy schedules, long days, tired parents—kids still need to hear that Jesus wants them near. Grown-ups need that welcome too.
How to prepare the heart
- Pause one chore and give a child five minutes of full attention—no phone.
- Pray with simple words at bedtime; let the child repeat after you.
- Grown-ups: read Mark 10:14 slowly and receive the welcome yourself.
Quiet reflection (optional)
- When have I hurried past a child who needed presence?
- How can I come to Jesus with a simpler heart today?
For little ones
Open arms game: parent opens arms; child runs in. “Jesus says come.”
