Ruth Stays Loyal

“Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.” — Ruth 1:16-17

Faithfulness on an uncertain road—clinging to God and to family.

The Scripture (Ruth 1:16-17)

And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

The story / setting

Naomi lost husband and sons. Ruth, her daughter-in-law, could have returned to Moab. Instead Ruth chose Naomi’s people and Naomi’s God—without knowing how the story would end.

The lesson learned

Ruth chose loyalty when she could have chosen comfort. She clung to Naomi—and to God—on an uncertain road.

How it applies today

Marriage, friendship, caring for an aging parent, showing up for a child who needs steadiness—loyalty is often ordinary faithfulness on ordinary Tuesdays.

How to prepare the heart

Quiet reflection (optional)

For little ones

Walk holding hands in a circle. “Ruth stayed with Naomi.”
