No signal, honest help
Offline porch checklist
One rural night-shift reader put it this way: when the cell bar dropped, the verse he had already opened on Wi‑Fi was still there in the morning. This page is that same idea in plain steps—not a promise of perfection, just what usually works.
Add to Home Screen (PWA)
- iPhone / iPad (Safari): tap the Share icon, scroll to Add to Home Screen, confirm. Open the porch from that icon later; it behaves more like an app than a forgotten tab.
- Android (Chrome): tap the menu (⋮) → Add to Home screen or Install app (wording varies by version). Same idea: one steady icon on the home screen.
- Install prompts only appear after the site has loaded at least once in the browser—do that on Wi‑Fi when you can.
First full load on Wi‑Fi (what actually lands on your device)
- Shell + static files: the service worker caches core HTML, CSS, and scripts so repeat opens are fast.
- KJV text: Bible data loads when you use reader, search, or verse tools—visit the rooms you rely on once while online so they are ready offline.
- Battle Plans: open the plans you care about; content is fetched as you go.
- Ask the Word / search index: open Home and run a sample search so the wiring you use is already on-device.
- My Study, Memorize, local prayer notes: stored in localStorage on this device by default—nothing to “upload” for basic use.
What works offline vs. what needs a first visit (or signal again)
| Usually fine offline (after you have opened it online once) | Needs Wi‑Fi / data again |
|---|---|
| Today’s verse block on Home, mood doorway, saved verses, many Battle Plans you already opened | Brand-new calendar day before the device has fetched it |
| Prayer Wall local drafts and quiet habits you already loaded | Posting or syncing prayer requests to the cloud |
| My Study notes, Memorize cards you have opened, printables you already pulled up | Ask the Word live results that never cached |
| Quiet tools you visited at least once on this device | Reading Monthly updates or any page you never opened before |
When you are back online: refresh clean
- Hard refresh: Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac).
- Mobile: open the site, pull to refresh on supported browsers, or close every tab and reopen from your Home Screen icon.
- If something still looks stale, clear this site’s data in browser settings—last resort; it can reset local saves, so only when you mean it.
Print + thin-week doors
Print hub — paper-friendly sheets when the screen is too much.
7-Day Emergency Calm Pack — one verse, one step, one prayer per day; printable companions.
For missionaries, truckers, rural routes, or no-signal rooms: print this checklist once, add two or three Battle Plans you actually use, and tuck them beside the device. The site stays free; the paper is your backup when the tower does not cooperate.
What this page is not
There is no full-site zip bundler here yet—that would be a separate build + service-worker ticket. This is honest guidance so you know what to open once, what to print, and what to expect when the signal goes quiet.
